Saor ó Chaipitleachas

Manifesto

June 2020

For Irish Liberation!

Foreword:

The once powerful voice in Northern Ireland of socialist liberation has been destroyed.

The Irish Parliamentary Party, the only nationalist voice in the Assembly, has folded within the Democratic Reformist Front, a vapid centrist party that stands for little beyond abolishing the monarchy. The leader of the party is a former member of the Reformists of Northern Ireland, which designated as other, and the party has taken a marked turn to the right. Enough is enough. We need a socialist voice in the Northern Irish Assembly.

Saor ó Chaipitleachas will not compromise on our values. We will put people before profit and stand against austerity in Northern Ireland. We will fight for the working class in Northern Ireland against the right-wing austerity agenda of the Ulster Unionists.

Together, we will break free of the oppressors, and we will free ourselves!

Manifesto:

Saor ó Chaipitleachas will fight against privatisation of public services. We stand with public sector workers and Northern Irelanders who will see the cost of living go up following privatisation of public services that are necessary for them. Keeping public services publicly owned will ensure these are run for the benefit of Northern Irish people and not the powerful.

We will fight for an increase in funding to Northern Ireland Water. It is important to ensure that water and sewerage services, which everyone uses, are not underfunded and that this vital industry in public hands continues to be properly funded.

We vow to protect Northern Ireland's natural beauty. We are against fracking in Northern Ireland and will stand against the the sale of forests and land owned by the public. We will keep it in the ground to ensure a proper renewable transition.

We will endeavour to establish a Northern Ireland-specific Serious Fraud Office and ensure that taxpayer money is not being spent on private or business interests, and spent where it is needed.

We will stand against reducing the corporate tax and work to holding multinationals and large corporations to account by levying a progressive tax rate on the local level.

We will crack down on tax evasion and close tax loopholes, and raise the capital gains tax.

To help solve the public health crisis, we will work to ensure that all GPs are employed by the health service to enable them to focus on providing proper healthcare instead of running a business.

Saor ó Chaipitleachas stands against the lack of action taken on conservation, especially in the recent budget. We will increase conservation funding and work to tackle the climate crisis.

We will establish an independent Environmental Protection Agency with teeth. This means empowering it to intervene in cases of massive criminal conduct or waste dumping.

We will work to increase reforestation targets to ensure that our biodiversity is protected.

We will end waste incineration and work to ensure recycling operations are expanded.

We recognise that there is no path to environmental recovery and ending the climate crisis if we continue our current profit-focused, neoliberal system where the interests of the private sector are promoted. We must put people before profit.

As per the recommendations of the report of the Green New Deal for Europe, we will declare a climate emergency in Northern Ireland and commit to continuously updating climate targets to align with scientific consensus.

We will establish a fee-and-dividend model of carbon taxation at a Northern Irish level whereby, as described in the report of the Green New Deal for Europe, a fee (or tax) is levied at the source on every tonne of CO2 equivalent emitted, and the revenue redistributed to the public in Northern Ireland as a dividend.

We will ensure that measures of carbon taxation or fuel taxation are proper progressive taxes, and that polluters and not the working class are punished.

We will pass a "Feed the Kids" bill, ensuring that all children in Northern Ireland are entitled to free school lunches.

As a nationalist political party, we are committed to the holding of a border poll in Northern Ireland, for which Saor ó Chaipitleachas will advocate in favour of. We favour the establishment of an independent, unified and socialist Irish state.

We are committed to keeping open borders across Ireland and ensuring cross-border co-operation.

We will fight for the preservation of the Irish language.

We will stand for civil liberties in Northern Ireland. We will work to repeal draconian anti-terror legislation and end strip searches.

Saor ó Chaipitleachas is committed to the establishment of a Northern Irish Bill of Rights.

We are against sectarianism, racism, misogyny and all the other types of bigotry that plague our society. We will work to remove all peace lines and strengthen anti-discrimination legislation.

We will ensure that LGBT+ health strategies are established and promoted, and stand against discrimination in regards to reproductive and LGBT+ healthcare.
